In a boot? It's a couple days before the band is to go onstage in an arena in Dallas, and there's been a very specific threat in a succession of threats: "Natalie Maines will be shot dead on Sunday, July 6, in Dallas, Texas." And so it is that the Dixie Chicks stand around like characters in a Beckett play and talk about killing Natalie Maines. THERE'S A SCENE in the new documentary Shut Up & Sing in which Natalie Maines, lead singer of the Dixie Chicks, her two bandmates, and their English manager stand around and talk casually about where they might conceal a weapon if they wanted to kill Maines.
